The Wekiva Challenge

On Saturday, September 26th more than 60 volunteers from around the world joined together to spend a morning cleaning the Wekiva River. Keep Seminole Beautiful partnered with Wekiva Island Marina to sponsor this river clean-up. Many groups joined together to make this event happen!

The Libertarian, Democratic and Republican political parties had a friendly challenge for which party would do the best job cleaning the river. Although a recount has been requested early returns suggest that the Rs kicked … today. It shows if we all work together we really can solve problems. The real winner today was the river.

Ellen Barr from AYUSA, high school student exchange program had 7 students and families participating.  There were 3 students from Germany and 1 each from Moldova, Japan, Pakistan, and Thailand.

There were students and teachers, the Seminole County Tax Collector, a Florida House Member, the Alligator Princess, business and professional men and women,  Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisor and a retired man all working together to help solve an environmental problem.

It was a great day on the river!
