Workforce Central Florida Summer Job Connection (WCF)
We have five interns under this program working to combat Non-native Invasive Plants, plant native plants, pick up litter and learn about native plants and landscaping.
The program started on Monday June 22nd and will end July 31st. This is a two week photo report.

The first morning - the paperwork

Then reality - Soldiers Creek at the Seminole County Environmental Studies Center - we gave our blood and sweat - the mosquitoes feasted and we contended with a heat index of 105. We filled the dumpster and the mosquitoes.

Then of course Day two was a walk in the Park … a tad toasty as we cleared litter and invasives from the 18th Street Park in Sanford.

In the afternoon we strolled along Lake Monroe and recovered 10 large bags of invasives and trash.

Since “the walk in the park” we’ve worked on invasives and trash at: the Flagler Trail, Saint Johns River Trail Head, Wayside Park, the Geneva Wilderness Area, the Jim Logue Way Trail, South Seminole Nursery, Layer Elementary School, and Mullet Lake Park. We’ve been to some locations two or three times and will be going back to many of the others. We’ve pulled hundreds of pounds of trash and invasives out of our parks, natural areas and educational facilities. Unfortunately we only have four weeks left with these great interns.
Kristie Ryan, our Administrative wizard has participated in most of the efforts and Judy Graybill has worked with us for two days as well.
