Labor Day

Labor Day is a Legal U.S. Holiday originating from the Central Labor Union to create a day off for the working man. Became a Federal Holiday in 1894.

9-10

11AM -1 PM

  "Project Green"

Seminole Towne Center will be one of four Simon malls across the state of Florida opening its doors on Sat., Sept. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., to educate and motivate individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments. Together with Keep Seminole Beautiful (KSB), Simon Property Group's "Project Green" will engage shoppers with recycling information and fun activities that are sure to inspire them to take action towards a cleaner, greener and more livable community.

Mall shoppers of all ages will have the opportunity to gain the knowledge they need to make informed choices and take personal action to improve their community. Keep Seminole Beautiful will be on-site with information and interactive activities such as arts and crafts, an E-waste recycling effort by A-1 Assets (http://a1assets.com) that will allow individuals and companies to donate their old computers, printers, etc. to KSB for a Federal tax write-off; we'll also be collecting Ink & toner cartridges, cell phones and monofilament fishing line to recycle; the Central Florida Zoo (http://www.centralfloridazoo.org/ ) will highlight their recycling effort; SP Recycling will have an informational booth and collect white paper for recycling (http://www.sprecyclingflorida.com/) : Waste Pro (http://www.wasteprousa.com) will have an information table; The US Green Chamber (http://www.usgreenchamber.com/) will be distributing literature; Emma the Face Painter; and Whitney Kerr, Miss Florida Water (http://www.earthfloridapageants.com) will also be there to greet visitors..

"Seminole Towne Center is proud to support Keep Seminole Beautiful to raise awareness on environmental stewardship," said Shelley Sloan, director of marketing, Seminole Towne Center. "As a company, we are doing what we can to go green and are glad to foster this opportunity so others can help preserve our environment."

This new initiative furthers other recycling efforts at Simon malls across the state. Some malls are now recycling paper, plastic and aluminum materials, as well as glass beverage containers, and some now have easy access to extra compactors - six for "single-stream recycling" including magazines, office paper, newspapers, aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles, and two for flattened cardboard. All materials from these compactors are diverted from local landfills and taken to the Material Recovery Facility for separation.

Keep Seminole Beautiful is a nonprofit organization composed of individual, companies, organizations and governmental bodies. Keep Seminole Beautiful works to enhance and improve the built and natural environments in Seminole County through a variety of educational programs and clean-up projects including: anti-litter projects; river, retention pond and lake clean-ups; educational gardens; water conservation programs; recycling programs; and community block grants.
