Press Release

Oviedo Recycling Improvements

Recycling in the City of Oviedo is expanding to provide for an increased number of products that residents can recycle.  Republic Services will distribute an additional recycling bin with educational materials to all Oviedo Solid Waste and Recycling Franchise Customers starting the week of November 10, 2008.  City Parks, Offices and other City facilities will also participate in the new recycling program.

“Residents will be surprised at how much can now be recycled in Oviedo” said Mayor Andrews.  “The more residents recycle, the less garbage will need to be disposed of at the landfill which saves our nation’s resources and can also save on future disposal costs”.

In addition to the previously recyclable materials, recyclable materials now include food containers such as glass jars, aluminum cans, steel cans, food plastics marked 1 to 7 on bottom, cardboard boxes, newspaper, junk mail, food & cereal boxes, phone books, magazines and office paper.  Because of the added paper that can be recycled, residents are encouraged to use a two bin system, placing all food containers in one bin and all paper in the other bin.
